At least 299 people, including 140 children, have died in rain-related incidents across Pakistan during the ongoing monsoon season, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported on Sunday.

Since 26 June, heavy downpours have triggered flash floods and landslides, injuring more than 700 people.

The eastern Punjab province recorded nearly half of all fatalities, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Among the 715 injured are 239 children, 204 women, and 272 men.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast another wave of rain and thunderstorms starting Monday in Punjab, KP, and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, prompting authorities to prepare for further emergencies.

While monsoon rain are common in South Asia, their growing intensity and unpredictability have been linked to climate change, leading to increased devastation in recent years.
