Azerbaijan has unveiled plans to export renewable electricity to Türkiye through the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, with a projected capacity of up to 1 gigawatt.
The move is part of the country’s broader strategy to scale up green energy production and expand its role as a regional power exporter.
Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov told Anadolu Agency on June 6 that Nakhchivan has the highest solar radiation levels in Azerbaijan, along with strong wind potential. The region’s renewable electricity capacity is estimated at around 6 gigawatts.
“Türkiye is currently the top destination for our electricity exports,” Soltanov said, adding that 1 gigawatt of power from Nakhchivan could be exported directly to Türkiye.
