The King of the Kingdom of Gureshaba, Doku Hmaiai Hippolyte Sinewami Htamumu, has formally applied to join the Baku Initiative Group. The Kingdom of Gureshaba is located on Nenon Island in New Caledonia.
In his application, King Htamumu highlighted his nation’s longstanding struggle for sovereignty, dating back to the occupation of his country by France in 1853.
As the Great Kanak Chief, he emphasized the collective efforts of the Kanak people, including key leaders, in declaring their sovereignty unilaterally on September 24, 2024. He stated that it was important to bring the sovereignty claim to the international stage.
"Therefore, I sincerely request that the Kingdom of Gureshaba be accepted as a member of the Baku Initiative Group," the king wrote in his official submission.
The application included a note of appreciation for the support and solidarity expressed by Azerbaijan in the past regarding the Kanak people's struggle for independence. King Htamumu conveyed his highest respect and honor in his appeal for membership in the group.
The Baku Initiative Group, a diplomatic coalition aimed at fostering regional cooperation, has yet to respond to the Kingdom of Gureshaba’s application. If accepted, this would mark a significant step in the kingdom’s quest for international recognition.
