UN urges ceasefire as new round of Ukraine-Russia talks resume
The United Nations reiterated its call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, urging both sides to pursue a just and lasting resolution under international law.
U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday morning for discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Speaking to reporters, Kellogg emphasized the importance of continued dialogue, noting that he and his team had previously met with President Zelensky in Munich. "This will be a continuation of those talks," he said, expressing optimism about the discussions ahead.
Kellogg acknowledged Ukraine's security concerns, stating that his mission was to listen and relay these concerns back to President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and other key officials. "We understand the need for security guarantees," he said. "Our goal is to ensure we get this right."
Referring to the ongoing war, Kellogg suggested that it might not have started under different leadership. He described the conflict as "egregious," highlighting the human suffering and destruction it has caused. "Ending this war would be good for the region and the world," he added.
Following his remarks, Kellogg departed without taking further questions.
