President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan met a senior NATO envoy in Yerevan to discuss expanding cooperation the presidential office said.
President Vahagn Khachaturyan met Kevin Hamilton, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, and welcomed him on his appointment, saying Armenia–NATO ties had developed a “solid foundation”.
Hamilton said he was ready to support efforts to deepen cooperation and contribute to regional stability and security, according to the statement.
The two sides discussed prospects for closer engagement across multiple formats, pointing to positive momentum in high-level political dialogue.
They also emphasised cooperation in institutional development, the rule of law and governance transparency, underlining the importance of sharing best practices and continuing joint programmes.
Khachaturyan said Armenia’s bilateral ties with individual NATO members were also expanding in political, defence and military areas, helping to boost the country’s capabilities and reform efforts.
Armenia has in recent years sought to broaden its security partnerships beyond its traditional alliance with Russia, deepening engagement with Western institutions including NATO and the European Union.
While not a NATO member, Armenia participates in the alliance’s Partnership for Peace programme and has contributed to NATO-led missions, reflecting its efforts to diversify its foreign and security policy.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued dialogue aimed at promoting peace, stability and security in the South Caucasus.
