U.S. President Donald Trump has thanked Morocco's King Mohammed VI after a video shared on his Truth Social platform presented the country's Tiznit-Dakhla expressway as the "President Donald J. Trump Highway."
In a post accompanying the video, Trump described the gesture as "a great honour" and said he hoped to visit Morocco soon.
"Thank you to the highly respected Mohammed VI, King of Morocco. What a great honor! I look forward to traveling the full length of this great highway one day, hopefully very soon," Trump wrote.
The video highlights the expressway crossing Morocco's southern provinces and links the tribute to Trump's 2020 decision to recognise Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, a move welcomed by Rabat but rejected by the Polisario Front and not recognised by the United Nations.
While the video refers to the route as the "President Donald J. Trump Highway," Moroccan authorities have not yet issued an official announcement or decree formally confirming the renaming. The road is widely known as the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway, a major infrastructure project connecting Morocco's Atlantic coast with the country's southern regions.
Trump's post comes as U.S.-Morocco relations remain close, with Rabat continuing to regard Washington's recognition of its sovereignty claim over Western Sahara as a landmark diplomatic achievement.
