Red carnations and wreaths were placed at Azerbaijan's monuments in the capital Baku on Thursday as the country remembered the 613 victims of the Khojaly genocide in 1992.
The commemorative events mark the 34th anniversary of the genocide, which occurred during the First Garabagh War.
Government officials, military personnel, and public figures attended the main memorial service in Baku as a nationwide minute of silence will be held at 5pm across the country to honour those who died.

Global awareness
Commemorative events also took place outside of Azerbaijan. Embassies, diplomatic missions, and diaspora organisations organised gatherings in cities around the world including Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, United States, France, Canada, as well as in Germany, Belgium, Mexico and South Africa.
These international events included educational exhibitions, peaceful rallies, and memorial services to raise awareness of the 1992 events.
