President Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijan’s Orthodox Christian community on the occasion of Christmas.
According to AnewZ, the letter reads:
“Dear compatriots,
I sincerely congratulate you and the entire Christian community of Azerbaijan on the holy Christmas holiday and extend my warmest wishes to each of you.
For centuries, Azerbaijan has enjoyed an atmosphere of national and spiritual solidarity founded on mutual respect and trust, friendly relations and brotherhood among different peoples and faiths.
The promotion of a culture of coexistence, moral and ethical values, multiculturalism and the principles of tolerance is a key priority of the state policy we pursue.
In Azerbaijan, known for its rich traditions of tolerance, everyone has opportunities for cultural self-expression.
Regardless of language, religion or ethnic origin, comprehensive democratic and legal conditions have been created for all citizens, including the Christian community, to preserve and further develop their ethnic and cultural identity.
It is commendable that our Christian compatriots actively participate in all areas of our socio-political and socio-cultural life and contribute to the progress and prosperity of our common home, Azerbaijan.
Christmas embodies such noble values as renewal, purity, compassion and kindness.
On this cherished day, I once again extend my holiday greetings to you all and wish your families happiness, abundance and prosperity.
Happy holidays.”
