Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev says COP31 in Türkiye will strengthen regional climate cooperation, with Baku ready to share its COP29 experience and coordinate the upcoming agenda with Ankara.
“Hosting COP31 in fraternal Türkiye is, above all, a source of pride for our country and offers an opportunity to once again draw the international community’s attention to the region’s climate challenges, following Azerbaijan’s lead. Türkiye is implementing numerous global climate initiatives, notably the Zero Waste initiative launched by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, which has gained international recognition. Its wider promotion at COP31 will be significant for both Türkiye and Azerbaijan. COP31 will also mark a key milestone for Azerbaijan’s deeper engagement in climate diplomacy, with ongoing discussions between the two countries to coordinate the agenda,” said Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister and COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev.
Rafiyev added that Azerbaijan, having gained substantial experience through COP29, is fully prepared to share its expertise with its fraternal nation as Türkiye prepares to host COP31 for the first time. He noted that Azerbaijan has already demonstrated readiness at both ministerial and technical levels, with Türkiye expected to extend a formal invitation to the Azerbaijani delegation soon. Once the visit takes place, the two sides are expected to outline specific areas for joint cooperation.
