Russia says several “unfriendly” countries approached its delegation at the G20 summit in Johannesburg with concrete proposals for economic cooperation, according to senior Kremlin official Maksim Oreshkin.

Russia says its delegation held a series of constructive discussions at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, with officials describing the overall outcome as positive. Maksim Oreshkin, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration and head of the Russian delegation, told reporters after the summit that the meetings had been “productive” and that the team was satisfied with the results.

He said talks with what he called “friendly” countries were held in a regular and constructive manner. In addition, Oreshkin stated that representatives from several states officially labelled by Moscow as “unfriendly” raised specific proposals concerning economic relations and joint projects. According to him, “the number of countries with whom we discussed these issues is not one or two,” indicating that several governments approached the Russian side.

Oreshkin did not name the countries involved or provide details of the proposals. His comments followed Russian media reports saying that some delegations had conveyed interest in developing cooperation with Moscow despite political differences.

Speaking at a press briefing after the summit, Oreshkin reiterated that the Russian delegation viewed the Johannesburg meetings as effective, noting that conversations took place across various formats throughout the gathering.
