Türkiye says it's working towards "unblocking" the process of prisoner exchanges with Moscow and would hold further meetings in the Middle East.
The comment comes as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Rustem Umerov, secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council, in Istanbul for talks with Russia on Wednesday.
According to Fidan's social media post on NSosyal, he also said that Türkiye is committed to facilitating peace talks and mediation between both countries..
Meanwhile, Russia’s state news agency TASS quoted a Foreign Ministry official as saying Moscow is ready to resume peace negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul adding the Russian team is ready for this.
No further details about the meeting have been released so far.
Previously Umerov had said on Telegram that his visit is aimed at resuming prisoner-of-war exchanges with Russia.
