An Air Canada flight made an emergency landing in Halifax after a landing gear issue caused skidding and an engine fire. All passengers were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.
An Air Canada flight made an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Saturday night due to a landing gear malfunction, Anadolu Agency reports.
Flight 2259, which departed from St. John’s International Airport, encountered issues at 9:30 AST (01:30 GMT Sunday) that caused skidding and an engine fire. Emergency crews quickly responded to ensure the safety of those onboard, according to media reports.
Passenger Nikki Valentine told CBC News that one of the plane's tires failed to deploy properly, causing the aircraft to tilt about 20 degrees to the left. "We heard a loud crash-like sound as the wing and, presumably, the engine scraped along the pavement," she described.
All passengers were safely evacuated and assessed by paramedics in a nearby hangar. No injuries were reported. Flights at the Halifax airport were briefly suspended, but one runway reopened early Sunday.
