Erdogan calls for end to Israeli occupation, compensation for damages

Anadolu Agency

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories and compensate for the damage caused.

Erdogan emphasized the necessity of establishing an independent, sovereign, and geographically integrated Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He made these remarks during a joint news conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during his visit to Malaysia.

Humanitarian Aid and ASEAN’s Role

On aid to Gaza, Erdogan stated that a coordinated effort among ASEAN members could significantly enhance relief efforts. Anwar praised Türkiye’s leadership on the Gaza issue, asserting that no other nation has contributed as much humanitarian aid. He added that Malaysia, under its ASEAN presidency, would mobilize the regional bloc for Gaza’s reconstruction.

Gaza Ceasefire and Israeli Policies

Addressing prospects for a ceasefire, Anwar criticized Israel’s continued aggression and expansionist policies, arguing that progress remains uncertain as Israel has yet to withdraw from Palestinian territories.

Türkiye-Malaysia Trade Relations

On economic cooperation, Erdogan announced plans to increase bilateral trade volume between Türkiye and Malaysia from $5 billion to $10 billion.

The discussions underscored Türkiye and Malaysia’s commitment to supporting Palestinian statehood, humanitarian aid, and economic collaboration.
