Hamas visits Moscow, promises to release Russian hostages

Senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk promises a release of two Russian natives kidnapped from the Nova festival on October 7, 2023 amid his upcoming talks in Moscow.

A Hamas delegation, led by Deputy Chairman of the Movement's Political bureau Mousa Abu Marzouk, is expected have talks in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in particular with Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and African Countries, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Bogdanov, according to tass.ru.

Kremlin’s spokesperson Dmirty Peskov said on Monday that its meeting with President Putin was not planned.

Hamas delegation aims to request Russian government to provide a humanitarian aid to Gaza and inform Moscow about the current situation over a Gaza ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

Russian outlet Sputnik reported that Mousa Abu Marzouk promised to release one of the remaining hostages, Sasha Trufanov, within the first phase of a ceasefire agreement with Israel, while a second Russian hostage, Maxim Kharkin, to be released during the second stage of the deal.

"One of them, Trufanov, will definitely be released very soon. He will be released even though he is a serviceperson, and it was decided to release him at the first stage of the deal. This is our response to Russia's position on the Palestinian issue," the deputy head said.
