Fourteen people were killed on Sunday after a helicopter belonging to Saudi oil giant Aramco crashed in Ras Tanura, according to Saudi state media.

Saudi authorities said the crash happened at around 6am local time and that all those killed were Saudi nationals.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known, and an investigation is under way.

Key oil hub

Ras Tanura, located on Saudi Arabia’s eastern Gulf coast, is one of the kingdom’s most important oil industry hubs. It is home to major Aramco facilities, including a refinery and export terminal.

Aramco, which is majority-owned by the Saudi government, is the world’s largest oil company and plays a central role in global energy markets.

The incident comes at a sensitive time for Gulf energy infrastructure, with regional tensions keeping oil markets on alert.

Azerbaijan offers condolences

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed condolences over the helicopter crash.

In a post on X, the ministry said it was deeply saddened by the tragic crash in the Ras Tanura region, which killed 14 people.

Azerbaijan extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, as well as to the government and people of Saudi Arabia.
