Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded a four-day tour on Tuesday, visiting Pakistan, Oman and Russia, expressing satisfaction with discussions focused on bilateral ties and regional developments.
During the visits, which began last Friday, Araghchi travelled to Pakistan twice, discussing the latest regional developments, including the Iran-U.S. standoff. During the trip, he reportedly conveyed Tehran’s proposal to ease the military conflict by postponing the nuclear issue.
In a post on X following meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in St Petersburg on Monday, Araghchi praised the “depth and strength of strategic partnership” between Tehran and Russia.
"Pleased to engage with Russia at the highest level as the region is in major flux. Recent events have evidenced the depth and strength of our strategic partnership.”
He welcomed Russia’s support for a diplomatic initiative in the Iran-U.S. conflict and added:
“As our relationship continues to grow, we are grateful for solidarity and welcome Russia's support for diplomacy.”
Iran’s top diplomat also expressed satisfaction with meetings in Pakistan and Oman, both of which have been acting as mediation channels between Iran and the U.S.
“The visit to Pakistan was a very good one, with good consultations, during which a review was made of what had happened and under what conditions the (Iran-U.S.) negotiations could resume,” he said in St Petersburg on Monday.
Speaking positively about Oman, he added: “Iran and Oman are two coastal countries of the Strait of Hormuz. It is necessary for us to consult, especially since safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz has become an important issue at the global level.”
While Iran has not officially disclosed a new proposal for de-escalation with the U.S., local media affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards reported that, over the weekend, Araghchi delivered messages in Pakistan to be relayed to Washington.
The messages reportedly concerned a potential deal to end the conflict and reopen the strategic waterway, while postponing discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme.
