Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has set recognition of Tehran’s inalienable rights, payment of war compensation, and international guarantees against any future invasion as conditions for ending the U.S.–Israel war with the Islamic Republic.
“The only way to end the war with the United States and Israel,” he wrote in a post on X, “is recognition of Iran’s legitimate rights, payment of reparations and firm international guarantees against future aggression.”
He made the statement following phone conversations on Wednesday with his Russian and Turkish counterparts and the Pakistani prime minister, during which he stressed that Iran would continue to exercise what he described as its legitimate right of self-defence.
In a separate phone call with Oman’s Sultan Haitham Al-Saeid, President Pezeshkian said Iran respects the sovereignty of its neighbouring countries and “is committed to peace in the region.”
However, according to a statement released by the president’s office, he emphasised that “Iran only targets the (U.S.) bases in regional countries that are used to attack us.”
The U.S.–Israel war on Iran has entered its 13th day, with few signs of de-escalation.
In what appeared to be diplomatic efforts to mediate in the ongoing conflict, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held phone conversations with his Russian, Indian and Egyptian counterparts, as well as the UN chief.
Following attacks on Iran’s civilian infrastructure, including the recent bombing of a bank in the capital Tehran, he said the Iranian armed forces would take revenge on those responsible.
“Iran’s national infrastructure is under attack. This time, a branch of my country’s oldest bank was bombed while full of employees labouring to ensure Iranians have food on the table ahead of our New Year,” he wrote on X.
“Our powerful armed forces will exact retribution for this crime,” Araghchi added.
The 32 countries belonging to the Internatioanl Energy Agency agreed to release 400 million barrels of oil on Wednesday (11 March), in efforts aimed at bringing down the price of crude oil, which has soared since fighting between Iran, Israel and the U.S. started at the end of February.
