Iran seized tanker with smuggled fuel

IRNA

The Islamic Republic of Iran has seized a foreign oil tanker in the Sea of Oman, accusing it of transporting two million litters of smuggled fuel.

The vessel carrying smuggled fuel in the Sea of Oman was impounded after inspectors uncovered irregularities in its cargo documentation, Hormozgan’s Chief Justice Mojtaba Ghahremani said on Wednesday as IRNA reported.

The operation was part of ongoing maritime surveillance efforts targeting suspicious fuel trafficking activities along Iran’s southern naval borders.

The vessel’s crew—comprising the captain and 16 other personnel—remains in custody as investigations continue.

A judicial case has been filed in the courts of the southern port city of Jask, and legal proceedings are currently underway.
