Severe flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in southern China has forced the evacuation of about 70,000 people, local media reported on Wednesday.

The province of Guangdong is among the hardest-hit areas, with around 300,000 residents affected and 15 people injured in flood-related incidents, according to state-run Xinhua News Agency.

Floods also impacted the provinces of Anhui, Hubei, Guizhou, and the municipality of Chongqing, prompting a coordinated emergency response. More than 3,000 rescue personnel have been deployed, with efforts underway to restore electricity across affected zones in Guangdong.

The National Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert—the third-highest in China’s four-tier system—for continued rainstorms through Thursday evening, warning of more downpours in central and eastern regions.

China’s weather alert scale ranks warnings from red (most severe) to orange, yellow, and blue.
