Kazakhstan among most affordable countries in 2025 global cost of living index

Kazakhstan ranks 114th out of 139 countries in the 2025 Global Cost of Living Index, with living costs 73.4% lower than New York City, the index baseline (100%).

According to data from Finprom.kz, Kazakhstan's cost of living index is 26.6, including:

  • Food index: 27.4
  • Restaurant prices: 28
  • Local purchasing power: 50.8
  • Rent index: 10.5
     

Within the CIS region, Kazakhstan's prices are lower than Armenia, Moldova, and Azerbaijan, but higher than Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and Russia.

Globally, the most expensive countries are the U.S. Virgin Islands, Switzerland, and Iceland, while the cheapest are Pakistan, Libya, and Egypt.

Despite affordability, inflation remains a concern:

  • Annual inflation stood at 10.7% in April
  • Paid services rose by 15.7%
  • Housing and utilities increased 15.8%
  • Communication services jumped 17.3%
     

The average monthly salary in Kazakhstan reached 423,100 tenge (US$825), but real wage growth, adjusted for inflation, was only 1.2%.
