Explosion near Kabul's Urban Development Ministry: Suicide bomber neutralized, one killed, three injured. ISKP suspected amid rising security threats in Afghanistan.
An explosion occurred near the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing in Kabul this morning. The ministry's spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that a suicide bomber attempting to enter the building was neutralized by security forces at the entrance gate.
According to the spokesperson, the explosion resulted in one fatality and three injuries.
This attack follows another explosion on Tuesday in northern Afghanistan, which took place in front of a local bank. Responsibility for that attack was claimed by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP).
While no group has yet claimed responsibility for this morning’s incident, the nature of the attack suggests that ISKP may be behind it. If confirmed, this would mark the second attack by ISKP this year. In 2024, ISKP carried out three attacks, one of which resulted in the death of Taliban minister Khalil Haqqani.
These attacks coincide with recent warnings from UN Security Council members regarding escalating security threats in Afghanistan. The council has urged decisive action against terrorist groups operating in the region.
This is a developing story.
