Türkiye and Iraq have signed five agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in transport, infrastructure, education, youth, sports and industrial development. The deals were announced after talks between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Ankara.

Among the agreements was a memorandum of understanding between Türkiye’s Transport and Infrastructure Ministry and Iraq’s Transport Ministry on railway and road connectivity through the Ovakoy-Fishkhabur border crossing.
The two countries also signed a framework agreement on developing Iraq’s transport infrastructure in exchange for natural resources.
Additional agreements focused on academic cooperation between the Turkish National Police Academy and the Iraqi Police College, as well as collaboration in youth and sports.
Türkiye and Iraq also signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation on industrial property between relevant institutions in both countries.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Erdoğan said the two sides discussed regional developments, including the situations in Iran, Syria and Palestine, alongside cooperation on security, counterterrorism, energy and transportation.
“Before you we have just signed documents that will enhance our relations,” Erdoğan said.
The Turkish president said Ankara considers Iraq’s security and stability closely linked to its own and stressed the importance of further cooperation between the two countries.
Erdoğan also said Türkiye is ready to provide Iraq with defence industry products if needed, highlighting continued security cooperation.
He said both countries are working towards a region associated with development, stability and prosperity rather than conflict and terrorism.
