Pakistan denies targeting hospital in Kabul strikes

Pakistani authorities have denied claims by the Afghan government that a hospital was targeted, insisting that its airstrikes were aimed solely at military and terrorist sites in and around Kabul.

Deadly clashes

Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tariz, said the most recent aerial strikes targeted only military and terrorist infrastructure, including ammunition depots, technical equipment storage sites, and installations linked to hostile activity against Pakistan.

The ruling Afghan Taliban claim that an airstrike struck a 2,000-bed hospital, injuring dozens. The incident came just hours after border fighting left four people dead in Afghanistan. The long-running conflict has reignited in recent months and has escalated rapidly in recent weeks.

Tensions remain

In February, a terror attack at a Shia mosque in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, killed more than 30 people. Pakistan blamed Afghan forces, maintaining that militant groups operating from Afghan territory are responsible for cross-border attacks. Kabul has denied the allegation.

China is attempting to mediate between the two sides, urging Islamabad and Kabul to work towards an immediate ceasefire and to prevent further escalation.

Pakistan announced, on Wednesday evening (18th March) on X that it is pausing attacks during the Islamic festival of Eid:
