Ulba-FA LLP, Central Asia's sole nuclear fuel plant, reaches full capacity, set to supply China with fuel assemblies for 20 years.
Kazakhstani-Chinese joint venture Ulba-FA LLP, the only fuel production facility for nuclear power plants in Central Asia, has reached its full capacity of 200 tons of low–enriched uranium in the form of fuel assemblies.
National Atomic Company Kazatomprom JSC reports that this capacity is enough to reload six nuclear reactors.
The project is a joint venture between the Ulba Metallurgical Plant (UMZ) and China General Nuclear Power Corporation.
The plant was launched in November 2021 and has been steadily increasing its production capacity according to its initial plan. According to long-term contract with China, the factory will export all fuel assemblies produced by Ulba-FA to nuclear power plants in China for the next 20 years.
