President of Turkmenistan has issued a decree abolishing the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers and establishing five new state bodies aimed at 'significantly' improving the management of the country’s transport and communications sector.
Additionally, the president issued an order appointing Mammethan Chakyyev, formerly the General Director of the Transport and Communications Agency, as Deputy Prime Minister for the transport and communications sector.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of increasing passenger and cargo traffic, improving service quality, upgrading railway tracks, and expanding the capacity of the railway network. He also stressed the need to renovate airports, modernize the aircraft fleet, and open new domestic and international air routes to economically viable destinations.
Following the abolition of the Transport and Communications Agency, three of its departments have been granted ministerial status - the Ministry of Railway Transport, the Ministry of Automobile Transport, and the Ministry of Communications.
The Türkmenhowaýollary and Türkmendeňizderýaýollary agencies have been renamed and granted the status of state services — becoming the State Service 'Türkmenhowaýollary' and the State Service for Maritime and River Transport.
The head of state also appointed the heads of the new ministries. Mammet Akmammedov was appointed Minister of Railway Transport, Begench Annadurdyev — Minister of Road Transport, and Hajymyrat Hudayguliyev — Minister of Communications.
Dovran Saburov was appointed Chairman of the State Service Türkmenhowaýollary, while Azat Shanazarov was appointed Head of the State Service for Maritime and River Transport.
