Daybreak: EU diplomacy, Iran tensions and Ukraine lead global agenda

The 3 July edition of AnewZ's Daybreak focused on major international developments, from escalating tensions in Ukraine and the Middle East to Europe's evolving security role and growing geopolitical engagement in the South Caucasus.

Regional diplomacy and connectivity

The programme examined the European Union's efforts to strengthen ties with Armenia following European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's visit to Yerevan.

Political analyst Orkhan Nabizade discussed the bloc's priorities in the region, including economic cooperation, energy security, transport connectivity and support for the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalisation process.

The programme also covered SOCAR's takeover of operations of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, marking a significant shift in Azerbaijan's management of key regional energy infrastructure.

Middle East and Europe

Daybreak also looked at Iran's preparations for the funeral of its late Supreme Leader and the temporary pause in indirect negotiations with the United States.

The programme explored the wider regional implications with research scholar Muhammad Ali Zafar, who discussed the future of diplomacy between Tehran and Washington.

Global headlines

The programme also covered Russia's latest large-scale strikes on Kyiv, the launch of a landmark Ebola treatment trial in the Democratic Republic of Congo, wildfire risks across southern Europe, trade talks between China and the European Union, and the latest developments from the FIFA World Cup.
