The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has formally recognised Azerbaijan’s strong organisation and effective delivery of COP29, paving the way for deeper cooperation and the involvement of Azerbaijani specialists in future global climate initiatives.
The UNFCCC confirmed its intention to draw on Azerbaijan’s expertise for upcoming international climate events and initiatives.
The COP29 Presidency met with the UNFCCC Secretariat on 17 November on the sidelines of COP30 in Belém. The meeting brought together COP29 President and Presidential Representative for Climate Issues, Mukhtar Babayev; Chairperson of the Board of the COP29 Operating Company, Narmin Jarchalova; UNFCCC Director of Conference Affairs, Wasim Mir; and UNFCCC Director of Legal Affairs, Christine Adam.
Discussions focused on the legacy of COP29, particularly Azerbaijan’s success in developing the human capital of its workforce and volunteers.
Both sides explored ways to further involve Azerbaijani specialists from public and private sectors in upcoming global projects, with an official cooperation agreement expected in the coming weeks.
The deepening partnership aims to showcase and export Azerbaijan’s COP29 organisational experience and the technical skills of its professionals to international climate efforts.
The dialogue reflects the growing confidence the international community places in Azerbaijan and its expanding contribution to global climate diplomacy.
