Spain is still battling massive wildfires, but cooler weather has given firefighters a much-needed boost in their fight against the flames.

Lower temperatures and higher humidity raised hopes that the crisis may be easing. However, in Galicia’s Santa Cristina de Cobres, a new wildfire broke out, sending thick smoke over the region.

Nationwide, around 3,400 army troops and 50 aircraft remain on duty, supported by hundreds of firefighters and equipment from Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Slovakia.

Spain’s burned area has already surpassed 400,000 hectares, the largest destruction recorded since 2006.
