U.S. singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty on Friday to affray over a 2023 incident at a London nightclub after prosecutors dropped more serious assault charges. Brown and his co-defendant admitted using or threatening unlawful violence during the altercation.
Brown, 37, and his co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, 40, entered guilty pleas at Southwark Crown Court in London over an altercation involving music producer Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in February 2023.
The pair admitted they had "used or threatened unlawful violence towards another" and that their conduct was such that it would cause a person of reasonable firmness to fear for their personal safety.
The two men had previously denied charges of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a trial scheduled for October.
However, following the guilty pleas to affray, prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe told the court that the Crown would not proceed with the more serious charges.
Prosecutors had alleged that Brown carried out an "unprovoked attack" on Diaw using a tequila bottle during the nightclub incident.
Brown was arrested in May 2025 after returning to Britain for the first time since the incident. He was initially denied bail, raising concerns over his "Breezy Bowl XX" world tour, before being released after agreeing to pay a £5 million (US$6.66 million) security bond.
Brown and Akinlolu are due to be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 26 October.
The singer left court to cheers from fans gathered outside, with supporters chanting "Breezy! Breezy!" as he signed autographs before departing.
