A 35-year-old woman was charged with attempted murder on Tuesday (10 March) after allegedly firing a semi-automatic rifle at the Los Angeles home of pop star Rihanna on Sunday, prosecutors said.
Authorities said Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, from Orlando, drove to the singer’s mansion in Los Angeles and opened fire at around 13:15 local time (21:15 GMT). No injuries were reported.
Police later located her vehicle about eight miles away at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, where she was taken into custody.
Ortiz is accused of firing multiple shots at the property before fleeing the scene. She also faces ten felony counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper.
Prosecutors said the suspect is being held on bail set at $1.875 million and could face life in prison if convicted.
Investigators said A$AP Rocky, Rihanna’s partner, and others were at the home at the time of the shooting. Authorities added that residents in neighbouring properties were also present.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said the incident posed a serious threat to the community.
“Opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted,” he said.
According to CBS News, investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department found social media posts by Ortiz referencing Rihanna.
In one post on X, she allegedly wrote: “Are you there? ... say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.”
Footage from the singer’s address showed suitcases being wheeled away from the property the day after the shooting.
