The second season of South Korea's hit series Squid Game has broken records, becoming Netflix’s most-watched show during its premiere week with 480 million viewing hours, according to Yonhap News.

The season quickly topped the Netflix Global Top 10 and ranked number one in 92 countries, a rare achievement for non-English shows.

Squid Game features a deadly contest where 456 players compete in life-or-death versions of Korean children's games for a 45.9 billion won ($31.5 million) prize.

The new season surpassed the first, which garnered 448 million hours in its fourth week. Netflix expects over 1.5 trillion won ($1.02 billion) in profit from the season, with a third installment planned for later this year.

Netflix rejected the claim, stating that it is not possible to evaluate profits based on the success of just one production, according to the JoongAng Daily.
