Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney is reportedly the top contender to become the next Bond girl, as director Denis Villeneuve and Amazon look to modernise the James Bond franchise.
Sydney Sweeney, known for her breakout roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, is widely expected to join the next instalment of the James Bond series. According to The Sun, the 26-year-old actress has emerged as the frontrunner to star alongside the yet-to-be-announced new 007.
Sources close to the production say director Denis Villeneuve, best known for Dune and Sicario, is keen to bring Sweeney on board, citing her “alluring appeal to younger generations” and “versatile talent” as critical to refreshing the iconic franchise.
Villeneuve reportedly bonded with Sweeney during their work on Eden, an upcoming survival thriller directed by Ron Howard and featuring Ana de Armas, Jude Law, and Vanessa Kirby. The film is slated for release in August 2025.
Sweeney’s recent presence at Jeff Bezos’ wedding in Venice has only added to speculation. Bezos, whose company Amazon now controls the creative direction of James Bond through its acquisition of MGM, is said to support Sweeney’s casting as part of a broader effort to reimagine the franchise for a new era.
