Skype, the well-known messaging and internet calling platform owned by Microsoft, is set to shut down in May 2025, concluding more than 22 years of operation.
Originally developed by a team of engineers and later acquired by Microsoft in 2011, Skype was once a leading tool for online communication.
Microsoft announced the decision in February 2025, advising users to switch to Microsoft Teams Free, where they can continue accessing core features like voice and video calls, messaging, and file sharing using their Skype accounts.
After May 5, 2025, paid users will still be able to use the Skype Dial Pad through the Skype web portal or within Microsoft Teams.
