Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD Co expects exports to account for around 20% of its global sales this year, supported by the launch of new models, the South China Morning Post reported on Monday.

According to the paper, BYD projects between 800,000 and 1 million deliveries outside mainland China in 2025, compared with a revised total sales target of 4.6 million units. The company’s general manager of branding and public relations, Li Yunfei, said, “International deliveries will make a greater contribution in the years to come,” noting that BYD’s own fleet of car-carrier vessels has helped boost exports.

The revised forecast confirmed a Reuters report earlier this month that BYD had cut its 2025 sales target by as much as 16%, reflecting its slowest annual growth in five years and signs that its record-breaking expansion may be levelling off.

In 2024, overseas sales represented less than 10% of BYD’s total 4.26 million deliveries, the South China Morning Post added.
