Kazakhstan and Meta are exploring joint efforts to boost AI innovation, strengthen digital safety, and enhance online protections for the youth. A new Instagram tool for teens and a forum at Maqsut Narikbayev University mark steps toward safer digital spaces.

Kazakhstan's Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, Zhaslan Madiyev, met with Meta Vice President Simon Milner on 10 June to explore potential collaboration in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), digital safety, and protecting minors from harmful online content, according to the ministry's press service.

The discussion focused on key topics such as AI advancement, cybersecurity, promoting digital literacy, and creating a safer digital environment for children and teenagers.

As part of Meta’s broader initiative, a special event was held at Maqsut Narikbayev University, bringing together government representatives, scholars, non-governmental organisations, and young people. The forum centred on combating cyberbullying, reducing access to harmful material, and developing privacy-conscious online monitoring tools.

Meta also unveiled a new Instagram feature called "Teen Accounts", tailored for users under 16. This feature includes strengthened parental controls, such as content filters, tools to manage profile visibility, automatic blocking of offensive language, muted notifications at night, and screen time limits.

Created with input from global researchers, parents, and child protection specialists, the new feature is expected to launch soon in Kazakhstan.
