Two rockets struck the Kirkuk Air Base and a nearby residential neighbourhood on Monday night, Iraqi security officials said.

No fatalities have been reported.

“One rocket landed between the first and second runways of Kirkuk Air Base,” Iraq’s official news agency said, citing a senior security source. The second struck a house in the Al-Uruba neighbourhood of Kirkuk province.

A subsequent security update indicated that a third, unidentified projectile may have landed near the base’s gate, sparking a grass fire and causing a minor injury.

Officials dismissed social media rumours claiming a security employee had been killed in the incident.

Security forces have secured the affected sites and launched an investigation. No group has claimed responsibility.
