U.S. President Donald Trump has demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial be cancelled, calling the case a “witch hunt” and suggesting Netanyahu should be pardoned.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump said he and Netanyahu had “been through hell together” and claimed they had achieved “great victories” against Iran, describing their efforts as a fight for Israel’s survival.
“No one in Israel’s history has fought harder than Netanyahu,” Trump said, criticising the prime minister’s scheduled court appearance on Monday as unfair.
“He deserves much better,” Trump added, praising Netanyahu as a national hero.
“Netanyahu’s case should be dismissed immediately, or he should be pardoned for all he has done for the country.”
Netanyahu’s trial, which began in 2020, includes charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust. He denies all allegations.
