On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy praised the nation's military as the cornerstone of its security, emphasizing their role amidst ongoing challenges.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy marked the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Friday (Dec. 6) with a powerful address to troops and military leaders. Speaking at the iconic Motherland Monument in Kyiv, a symbol of Ukraine's independence, Zelenskyy underscored the crucial role of the Ukrainian military in safeguarding the nation.
"Yesterday marked 30 years since the signing of the Budapest Memorandum," he said, referencing the 1994 agreement where Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan relinquished their nuclear arsenals in exchange for security assurances from global powers, including the U.S., UK, and Russia.
"Today, it is clear that the true, most important, and most reliable guarantee of our security lies with the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Zelenskyy added.
During the ceremony, the president honored the sacrifices of the nation’s defenders by presenting posthumous awards to the families of fallen soldiers and recognizing the service of active personnel.
