Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg in Minsk on Saturday to discuss Belarus–U.S. ties and regional security.
The talks took place at the Palace of Independence, with Lukashenko welcoming Kellogg and his delegation. The Belarusian leader noted the international attention surrounding the visit, stressing the importance of open dialogue.
“I hope our conversation will be sincere and open. Otherwise, what is the point of meeting?” Lukashenko said.
Kellogg, a retired U.S. general, highlighted the risks of the current global security climate and stressed the need for wisdom and fairness to prevent further escalation.
Lukashenko assured Kellogg of Belarus’ commitment to regional stability. “You will be completely safe on the territory of Belarus, and during this time there will be no escalation not only in Belarus, but also around us,” he said.
Belarus, a close ally of Russia, has previously offered to host peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
