Orkhan Nazarli, Head of Azerbaijan’s State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy, held separate meetings with senior tax officials from Latvia and Montenegro during the 29th General Assembly of the Intra-European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA) in Baku.
In Nazarli's meeting with Baiba Šmite-Roķe, Director General of Latvia’s State Revenue Service, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in taxation. The two officials exchanged views on institutional resilience, digitalisation of tax systems, tax control mechanisms, and the advancement of analytical tools.
Nazarli highlighted the value of sharing practical experience and innovation, proposing that concrete initiatives could be developed to deepen collaboration. Šmite-Roķe praised Azerbaijan’s progress in digital tax solutions and called for establishing regular expert-level dialogue and joint cooperation platforms.
Later, Nazarli met with Sava Laketić, Acting Director of Montenegro’s Tax Administration, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral engagement. Their discussions included institutional development, improving taxpayer services, adopting digital technologies, and enhancing tax compliance.
Nazarli reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to building strong international partnerships with peer institutions and expressed confidence that joint experience-sharing with Montenegro would be mutually beneficial. Laketić provided updates on Montenegro’s tax reform and modernisation efforts and voiced readiness to advance cooperation with Azerbaijan in key areas.
