NATO needs to evolve to meet today’s changing world, Italy’s Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said Friday.
“If NATO was created to guarantee peace and mutual defense, it must now engage with the Global South, or it will fail to ensure security based on rules that apply to all,” Crosetto told ANSA.
He added, “The US and the EU are no longer the center of the world.”
Regarding possible U.S. use of bases in Italy amid the Iran-Israel escalation, Crosetto said no formal request has been made by Washington. “It’s pointless to discuss something that doesn’t exist,” he said, adding that Italy reports to parliament when asked.
