Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday he supports China’s position that its ongoing tariff dispute with the United States should be resolved through dialogue.
Speaking in the early hours during a meeting with senior editors of news outlets, Putin emphasized the importance of balanced trade and underscored the potential for a negotiated solution.
“I agree with our Chinese friends here – we need to do this calmly, in the course of the negotiation process, and it is absolutely possible to achieve the desired result,” Putin said.
He added he believed Washington would eventually shift its stance.
“I have no doubt at all that the United States will eventually come round to this.”
The remarks come amid heightened global trade tensions, as the U.S. considers new tariffs and China continues to push for diplomacy over confrontation.
