Former Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been ordered to serve her six-year corruption sentence under house arrest in Buenos Aires, following a judge's ruling on Tuesday.
Kirchner, 72, who served as president from 2007 to 2015, was convicted in 2022 on charges of fraud linked to public road projects in Patagonia that allegedly benefited a close ally. Last week, Argentina's Supreme Court upheld the conviction, which also imposes a lifetime ban on her holding public office.
The judge mandated immediate enforcement of the sentence at Kirchner’s residence due to her age. She is required to remain confined to her home except for court-approved exceptions. Within 48 hours, she must provide a list of authorized visitors, including household members and medical staff, while others will require judicial approval.
