Fresh explosions were reported in Tehran on Friday as Iranian air defenses intercepted an Israeli missile, intensifying an already volatile regional crisis following Israel’s large-scale air assault on Iran.
Iran's state-run Press TV reported that air defense systems successfully intercepted an Israeli missile south of the capital. Videos circulating on Iranian social media platforms showed smoke plumes and the sounds of missile interceptions.
The new strikes came hours after Israel launched a major aerial offensive in the early hours of Friday, deploying approximately 200 warplanes in coordinated attacks on Iranian territory. The primary targets reportedly included facilities linked to Iran’s nuclear program and its long-range missile systems.
The initial wave of attacks claimed the lives of senior Iranian military officials and several nuclear scientists, according to local sources.
In response, Tehran has vowed “severe punishment” and has called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, demanding accountability for what it describes as a blatant act of aggression.
