U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he and his team were aware of Israel’s plans to strike Iran, calling the operation “very successful.”
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal on Friday, Trump said the U.S. had not received a formal heads-up from Israel but was fully informed. “Heads-up? It wasn’t a heads-up. It was, we know what's going on,” Trump told the paper in a brief phone interview.
He also revealed that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday and planned a follow-up call on Friday. Trump described the Israeli strike as “a very successful attack, to put it mildly,” according to the Journal.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions following Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, which Israel said were aimed at preventing Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.
