The two officials discussed regional security, economic cooperation, and humanitarian efforts. "We discussed economic opportunities, regional security, and humanitarian efforts to mark the growing partnership between the United States and the UAE," Rubio said on X.
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said the talks also included a review of President Donald Trump’s recent visit to the Gulf state, which she described as “historic.” Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to promoting security and prosperity in the region.
The ministers exchanged views on other regional issues, including the conflicts in Syria and Sudan.
Iran is setting conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including an end to the war, the lifting of the U.S. blockade and sanctions. At the same time, Washington is stepping up economic pressure on Tehran through what the White House calls “Operation Economic Outcast.”
