Poland's newly elected president, Karol Nawrocki, said in his first international interview that Hungary is a key partner and he aims to strengthen cooperation through the Visegrad Group, an alliance of Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

This group had become less active after Donald Tusk's pro-European government took power in 2023, replacing the nationalist Law and Justice party, which had close ties with Hungarian leader Viktor Orban.

Nawrocki's recent election win was a setback for Tusk's centrist coalition and a boost for nationalist forces in the region. Orban welcomed Nawrocki's victory, calling it a great success and comparing him to Donald Trump.

In the interview, Nawrocki praised Orban as a successful politician and expressed his desire to meet and work closely with him. He also emphasized the importance of regional cooperation through NATO and the Bucharest Nine.

Although Nawrocki supports Ukraine strategically due to the threat from Russia, he remains against Ukraine joining the European Union, saying Ukraine must also respect the national interests of countries like Poland and Hungary.
