After nearly a decade of talks, Indonesia and the European Union aim to finalize a free trade deal by the end of June.
Indonesia’s chief economic minister, Airlangga Hartarto, announced that negotiations with the European Union on a free trade agreement are nearing completion, with a deal expected by the end of June 2025. The statement followed his meeting with EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic in Brussels. While specific agreements remain undisclosed, both sides appear committed to resolving remaining issues. The EU is Indonesia’s fifth-largest trade partner, with $30.1 billion in trade last year. Disagreements have previously centered on EU deforestation regulations and Indonesia’s raw mineral export ban. Amid rising U.S. tariffs, Indonesia is eager to diversify its trade partners.
