Trump announces U.S.-China trade talks next week

CNBC

President Donald Trump announced Friday that top U.S. officials will hold renewed trade talks with Chinese counterparts in London next week.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will lead the delegation, accompanied by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

“The meeting should go very well,” Trump wrote. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Trump first hinted at renewed talks after a recent phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The announcement follows last month’s breakthrough bilateral meeting in Geneva, where both sides agreed to temporarily ease tariffs.

Trade between the two countries totaled over $582 billion in goods last year. While both sides have made temporary moves to de-escalate, the broader trade dispute continues to cast a shadow over global markets.
