Russia has signalled its willingness to either use or return U.S.-supplied nuclear fuel stored at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, with the IAEA offering to mediate the issue.

Russia has expressed readiness to either utilise the U.S.-supplied nuclear fuel currently stored at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine or return it entirely to the United States, a senior Russian nuclear official stated on Friday.

Alexei Likhachev, head of Russia’s state nuclear agency Rosatom, suggested that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) could serve as a mediator in resolving the matter.

Following a meeting with Likhachev, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed in a televised statement that the U.N. agency is prepared to facilitate mediation in the dispute.
